In Beta
All details found on this page relate to features and functions which are yet to be released. Perhaps you’ve seen Green Hippo developments at a tradeshow or open day and would like to know more. Please be aware that any software or hardware shown here is not yet publicly available. When they are released they will be added to the products and features section.
3.0.14 - Beta
Audio and multichannel audio
Hippotizer now sports simple and effective integration of audio. You can import video clips with audio and play them back in perfect audio/video sync with Level and Balance control on each layer.
The engine also supports playback of multi-channel audio files with selected hardware interfaces from manufacturers such as MOTU.
PlayList
Do you find programming a timeline a chore when all you want to do is switch between clips? Well the playlist is your answer. Simply open the playlist editor using the box in the top left corner of the media player window and you can drag your clips from the media window into it. Then all you need to do is decide on the duration of each and you’re done! Ideal for playback on standalone shows such as exhibitions or permanent installations.
Text Engine
Hippotizer now includes a fully featured Text Engine. Import existing documents or make them ‘on the fly’. Either way, you have all the controls you would come to expect such as scrolling, fading, direction, font and colour, and more!
Video input settings redesign
The live video capture options range has been extended and the setup dialogs and detection greatly simplified. The support is better than ever with low latency input for DVI/VGA/HDMI , 4 x composite input or HD-SDI.
OSC
Open Sound control is the new protocol to challenge MIDI. The name is misleading because you can use it to control many devices in many ways. There are already a whole host of 3rd party software which can now be used to output control commands to Hippotizer. You will be seeing more and more devices/software supporting this new protocol over the coming months but maybe you saw it here first! OSC is currently being used in conjunction with PinBridge for many of our interactive projects.
Screen Thief
Another feature many of our users have been waiting for: ScreenThief is our new Ethernet video capture solution for capturing the screen of a PC or Laptop in realtime over the network. Great for PowerPoint presentations etc. Lossless quality up to 1280x1024 resolution. Simply install the software on any non-Hippotizer PC on the network, set an IP address and you can select whatever is running on its screen as the source for any layer. Simple, high quality, cost effective capture of any computer you wish to incorporate into your Hippotizer setup.
HippoSnapper (Formerly codenamed LightPaint)
Mainly to be used in conjunction with ScreenThief, HippoSnapper allows instant grab of a still image from any layer or master. HippoSnapper can be used to transfer a PowerPoint Presentation onto your Hippotizer or to create a custom mask by capturing full screen Photoshop (or any similar drawing package) and projecting it on your stage. It is also useful for creating multi-layer static looks then compositing all the layers down to one image to free up layers.
ZooKeeper support for Vista/Windows7
You can now run the latest version of ZooKeeper remote control software on Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems.
ToolBox
PinBridge Plus
Video mapper
VideoMapper is a new component that will open up previously unseen levels of creativity in Hippotizer. This critically acclaimed (and now award winning) feature allows you to maximize your DVI driven display devices like never before. VideoMapper provides a solution for the limitations of many DVI based displays. Very few DVI screens or display devices are conscious of their location as part of a larger physical space. VideoMapper is a new component from Green hippo which allows you to position your screen elements randomly as you wish. You can even rotate sections at any angle or break screen sections apart. It takes minutes to design, and once done, Hippotizer will automatically distort any standard media so it appears correct on randomly positioned pieces. No need to prepare media. Simply play content on Hippotizer as you would normally and the system will correct it pixel accurately. Creative displays with little outlay and minimal pre-production costs. VideoMapper not only allows for user defined rotation and scaling but also allows the user to create multiple maps (up to 255) and change between them in real time.
FacMedia
This new features enables the owner of a Hippotizer to ‘lock’ their stock content so it cannot be removed or altered. Very useful for rental systems or anyone not wishing their stock media be altered.
SMPTE
Hippotizer has supported MIDI timecode for many years now. Version 3.0.14 now adds support for SMPTE too. Synchronise your timeline or multiple timelines across multiple systems to external timecode so your whole show is locked frame-accurately to a single clock.
16 bit
We are very proud to be the first media server (at time of writing) to offer 16bit Pixel Mapping. With a wealth of 16bit LED fixtures hitting the market Hippotizer is currently the only media server that will allow you to make the most of them! Developed for the Eddie Izzard tour which ran 16bit EvenLED panels, this new version allows for smooth fades without the stepping seen in 8bit systems.
Kinet
Native output of KiNet (Color Kinetics LED protocol) from PixelMapper. Now there’s no more need for 3rd party conversion boxes, you can output KiNet directly from your Hippotizer to control Color Kinetics’ vast range of fixtures and devices.
CITP
CITP is an open protocol for integration of lighting controllers, media servers and visualizers on a higher-than-control level. It makes it possible to browse a media server with thumbnail previews of content as well as effects, to use the correct effect-specific parameter names while programming and to preview output from a controller or visualizer. An alternative to our very own HMap2 protocol should your console or visualisation software not support it.
UberPan
Green Hippo continues its journey into the multifaceted world of realtime video by introducing UberPan, a unique multi-server screen management component that allows multiple Hippotizers to work together and create a single virtual canvas. Connect to as many display devices as you have server outputs and in as many different sizes and configurations as you like. Screens can be a mixture of different physical sizes and resolutions. Once configured, the 'herd' of Hippotizers are seen as one single server allowing easy realtime control and live manipulation from Green Hippo’s ZooKeeper control centre.
The setup grid uses real-world measurement units so projects can easily be pre-programmed from technical drawings minimising setup time. Furthermore, all realtime functionality found on any Hippotizer remains, removing the need to re-render media whenever changes are made.
- UberPan is in beta and not yet available for the public. However it can be made available through special projects. If you think your job / event needs UberPan, please contact Nigel and Tom in Special Projects and discuss with them.
