"A Star is Born" - Israeli TV show using Hippotizer

The concept of “A Star is Born” is much the same as American Idol. Amature singers from around Israel compete live onstage to become the next big recording artist in Israel as well as win $60k prize money.

The TV show is now in its 8th season on Israeli channel 2, previously using an MA video server. However with the new and more demanding set design and the need for VideoMapper the design team recently switched to Hippotizer Media servers. The show is set to run for 26 studio shows and then the final show will have a different set and be outdoors.

The stage set is 84 square metres of Martin semi-transparent LED genlocked to the cameras and the team use an array of equipment:

“We have exactly 8 hours of rehearsals before each show, the Hippotizer gives us the opportunity (because of its great colour effects) to make a complete and fast match between the lighting design and the content design, together with the great set design we are receiving a complete product and not 3 different worlds. The great DMX control of the Hippotizer lets the lighting designer achieve whichever look he wants in a short amount of time.”

“The Hippotizer runs all of the video on the screens including the live video inputs, we are running 4 layers on the back screen (one output HD Hippotizer), 4 layers on the side screens (second output on the HD Hippotizer), 4 layers on the back semi transparent led,4 layers on the top net, and 4 layers on the lcd (?) screens (12 layers on the stage hippotizer), we are using the new split DMX option to use more than one universe on a machine, an option that gives us opportunity to work with more than8 layers on one machine. We used the VideoMapper option to organize the content on the structure of theLCD displays. We also use the mask effect to cut out part of the screens, to make it look like the shape of the screens are the same as the shape of the set.

The team of designers Maya Hanoch, Ronen Nagar and Shay Bonder have worked together since the beginning of the show and have said that ever since the switch to Hippotizer Media servers, their lives are much easier and they are getting great feedback and response to the overall ‘look’ for the new season shows. Now that’s the kind of feedback we like to hear about and are glad our Hippotizer Media Server helped them achieve it.
