Fuzion Far East's Thailand Projects

Fuzion Far East's Thailand Projects

A couple of months ago we announced Green Hippo’s new exclusive distributor for Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia, Fuzion Far East (FFE). Already established Hippotizer users with experience from a wide variety of jobs, Fuzion have worked on some high-profile projects in conjunction with the creative media production company Luminox Co. Ltd., who have a reputation for creating some astonishing 3D-mapping.

We at Green Hippo felt it only right to highlight a varied selection of projects taking place in Thailand, from historical and traditional celebrations to sports and commercial events, show-casing perfectly the company’s experience and capabilities. Fuzion’s Tony Oates and Pok have supplied extensive details for four of these events.

PHIMAI MEMORIAL

FFE facilitated an event at the historical site of the Phimai temple complex. The Khmer temples, from the Angkor Wat period, are at the heart of the little town Phimai in the north-eastern Isaan region of Thailand. The event incorporated projection onto the temple buildings to complement the traditionally themed performances, including dance, and fireworks.

This project included a twofold projection set-up using a centre-image projection for the main building, plus a widescreen projection for the length of the temple front.

Using five HippoCritters and two Hippotizer HDs on dual output mode the whole set-up included 11 projectors. The centre image was created with four Christie Roadster + lens S+20K projectors double stacked which were situated about 100m away from the building and created an image of (W)12000mm x (H)23000mm with a vertical overlap of 105 pixel. With seven Panasonic PT-DZ12000E projectors a widescreen image of (W)72178mm x (H)7000mm was created with a content overlap of 384 pixels, for which the projectors were mounted 63m away from the building.

CENTRAL CHIDLOM

In anticipation of the festive season the ‘Let’s Celebrate’ event was organised for 26th and 27th November 2010. A Christmas and New Year-themed 3D projection mapping display on the Central Chidlom department store in Bangkok.

Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjVSVCRldk8&feature=youtube_gdata_player

For a projection size of (W)44002mm x (H)24000mm, they used six Christie HD 18K projectors, double-stacked at a distance of 50m from the building and with an overlap of 108 pixels one seamless image on Central Chidlom was created. The content and projection was run from three HippoCritter media servers, and a particular challenge was the 90° vertical rotation of the projectors.

100 YEARS VAJIRAVUDH

Last December 2010 saw the centenary celebration of Vajiravudh College in Dusit, Thailand, an all-boys boarding school founded in 1910 by King Vajiravudh. The projection was set-up for the main building, Vajiramonkut, where three HippoCritter media servers fed content to six Christie HD18K projectors double-stacked at 45m distance from Vajiramonkut building. The building provided a screen size of (W)45000mm x (H)10400mm and with a projector overlap of almost 35% and a total resolution of 4422 x 1080 pixel a smooth 3D mapping experience was created. Using Hippotizer’s syncro component the events audio narration and music was synchronised with the video content.

UNIVERSITY GAME

In January of this year, Fusion Far East and Luminox were responsible for the Opening and Closing ceremony of Thailand’s 38th University Games taking place from 15th – 23rd January.

This annual event is a competition for Thailand’s universities in disciplines from swimming, badminton and basketball to dance, martial arts and golf. Taking place in different venues every year, the 2011 games were held at Chalalongkorn University in Bangkok.

The Opening Ceremony took place on 15th January and a stunning 3D projection mapping on the steps and slops of the university’s stadium really did open the games in style. At a distance of
115  Ì´125m 12x Christie HD18K projectors were triple-stacked in rows of four to create the very wide image needed. Using four image configurations they were run from three HippoCritter media servers and one Hippotizer HD on dual output mode. With a visible screen size of (W)94000mm x (H)11500mm and ca 10% projector overlap, one 8832x1080 pixel resolution image was created.
A key for this project was Fuzion’s first-time-use of OSC protocol on an iPad to control the centre image hue in real time.

For the Closing Ceremony on 22nd January one Hippotizer HD on dual output mode was used to feed two image configurations to the six double-stacked projectors, projecting on one of the university’s buildings and part of the stadium.

Fuzion Far East are involved in a wide variety of projects that combine the old with new, honouring history and tradition with the latest state-of-the-art technology, while also celebrating new generations and creating thoroughly modern events.
