The Ujala Asianet Film Awards   are an annual event for one of the Star Group Indian TV Channels - Asianet. This year’s ceremony was one of the largest in terms of celebrity participation and audience attendance with 20,000 people turning up on 14th January 2012. In the past the event was based in India, so this year was the first time it took place in Dubai.

Mediapro International took care of the whole production, supplying the stage, set, lighting, LED screens, AV systems, venue planning and integration.

Even though the event was going to be telecast, the design and set also had to be a visual treat for the crowd of 20,000 present at the venue. The lighting had to be designed for TV cameras as well as the audience, which was a real challenge for the lighting designers.

The completed set was designed with around 400 lighting fixtures, 115 square meters of indoor LED screen, 12 x AV projection screens with Christie DLP projectors, 4 x arrays of JBL Vertec speakers, Digidesign D Show & DigiCo mixers, plus Shure U4D mic.  Total Solution Mega beam trussing was used as the main grid for the stage set. Mediapro used Hippotizer media servers and the LED screens to showcase the award winners, nominees and sponsors ,while for the acts and dance performances during the ceremony, graphics were synchronized with the lights  creating a  stunning visual experience for the audience.

When asked why Hippotizer media servers were chosen, Harold from Mediapro explained:
“200 Video play backs and effects, 20 Acts, 90 dance performances. This was a 7 hours long, non-stop event, the synchronization between lights and video content was again a huge task for the light operator and the AV operator. We had to look for a powerful, friendly-to-use media server and we found Hippotizer can do that.The other great thing about Hippotizer is the tech support. They are always ready to help no matter when I want it, I get a quick reply. For me its Hippo all the way now.”

The head of graphics at Star Group Indian TV is quoted as saying:
“The show was so successful only because of the visual treat given by lighting and graphics. The crowd could not move their eyes from the stage."
